History
The genesis of the team can be traced back to 2002 when six New Englanders seceded from various club-racing programs to form the Hawley-Racksmith team. Eventually named 1K2GO cycling, the predominantly criterium racing squad found success in the downtown streets of cities throughout the northeast. Over the next two years, the organization grew to include all-around riders, one of whom would later go on to join the U.S. National U-23 team and would win the Best Young Riders jersey at the Tour of Georgia.
A revamped squad in 2005 saw team management change hands. A team of mostly first year Category 2 racers, the team made tremendous leaps with several victories including the 2005 New England Bike Racing Association’s Overall Champion.
In 2007, Boston-based seafood restaurant company Legal Sea Foods signed on as the title sponsor. Notorious for its “lobster kit,” more additions were made to the team, which strengthened its chances in every event. MetLife, a presenting sponsor in ’07, has opted to stamp its name on the team for 2008 by becoming title sponsor. An additional three riders have been added this season, totaling 12 of the Northeast’s best, ready to take to the start line this spring and into the fall. Look for much success in the 2008. |
